Robert “Bob” Rita is the youngest son of the late John and Rose Rita, longtime public servants who taught Bob the value of hard work and service to the community. Rita graduated from Eisenhower High School in Blue Island, Moraine Valley Community College in Palos Hills, and is currently completing his Bachelors Degree at Governors State University. Representative Rita has been employed as both a Truck Driver and a Heavy Equipment Operator for the Cook County Highway Department.

As Chair of the Business & Occupational Licenses and the Tollway Oversight Committees, one of Bob works every day to protect consumers and keep motorists safe.

Rita’s priorities  also include a stronger economy through smart transportation policies, improving education, and regional economic development.

His lifetime of dedication has resulted in numerous victories for the people of the 28th District and Calumet Township, including

  • reviving the stalled I-57/294 interchange and seeing it through to completion
  • blocking the construction of a dangerous incinerator,
  • creating a program to help struggling hospitals upgrade critical equipment
  • preventing the closure of MetroSouth Hospital,
  • allowing Pace buses to operate on shoulders, and
  • tens of millions in capital construction dollars that create jobs through the modernization of local roads, bridges, rail lines and schools.
